Link building can be an all-consuming obsession.
We posted the infographic below, (it was created by the folks over at Shell Shock UK) because we couldn’t help but relate to it. (Yes, we’ve all been reading Linkspiel, for instance.)
When we say we live for link building, it’s not just a bumper sticker. If you’ve never done it, the niche oriented, custom link building and search engine optimization (SEO) that we do is almost like a puzzle that you get hooked on. And, it’s a puzzle you can’t stop until you’ve perfected it…and then you still keep working at it.
A hint: you know you’re hooked when you dream about link building in your sleep. We’re just waiting for Google to figure out a way to update its algorithm to affect the links built during REM sleep. Any day now… it’s coming, so don’t say we didn’t give you fair warning. At any rate, we have a love affair with link building, the process of link building, and the high we get from an all-out winner takes all outcome. We have had clients who didn’t show up with the first 50 pages of the search engine results pages (SERPs) and within weeks, they’re on the first page, in the top four.
But, getting results like that takes time, energy and persistence, and you still have to work to keep them there. We love the relationships we’ve created, and theses real relationships are make the internet better. No smoke and mirrors here. We love creating awesome content that gets links, because, “Wow, winning!” as Charlie Sheen would say.
It’s probably fair to say that a sort of link building addiction has taken hold, because otherwise we might have lost interest, or slowed down… but we can’t stop. It’s a pride thing; it’s a link junkie thing.
If we could compare it to anything, we’d say it’s akin to the obsession that Rubik’s Cube champions have. Once you’ve perfected the steps to solving the puzzle, you want more, you want to be faster. You want to beat your friends, you start looking for harder puzzles, or ways to show off your prowess at the puzzle… You solve the puzzle, one-handed, while doing push-ups. It’s why the search engine algorithms don’t faze us, because that’s just another challenge, another step towards getting better. Scratch that, being the best. (Yeah, maybe we’re a little competitive…we still think link building should become an official Olympic sport. )
We’re Not Link Building Addicts, But We May Have Said…
Ok, we get the point… there’s no need to hold a “link building intervention” or anything.
We can stop anytime! A link or two during our dinner date won’t hurt anything–Honey, come on! …It was only one teeny little piece of link bait!
We’re link builders, so we have tiger’s blood, and Adonis DNA and we’re tired of pretending we’re not special!
We have to build links today…to celebrate the sunshine!
Fine, we’ll only build links on weekdays, except some people consider weekends as part of the workweek…well, it is Sunday, and it wouldn’t do well to not get any links on a Sunday.
We’ll stop building links during social events, well, after this one.
We’re celebrating Tuesday by building more links!
No, we’re not going to any meetings! This is the last link, we swear!
This one is just link love…so technically it doesn’t count as building links.
….Ok, we promise to slow down…we just have to get…one…more…link!
