The Value of a Single Link

It’s baffling, but both people inside and outside of the SEO world equate “getting a ton of links” with “return on Investment.” There are spammy shadow-firms that award their customers hundreds or thousands of links through methods that would make James Bond, Ethan Hunt and Jason Bourne uncomfortable. Those firms, in turn, build up the crazy but pervasive myth that “more is always better.” Unfortunately, it’s a falsehood that business owners often subscribe to.

In the link building world, SEO professionals are often faced with the terrifying question, “Why didn’t you get me 500 links?” Until the client has a real conversation with an honest link builder, it’s likely that he’ll always correlate “more” with “better investment.” It’s our job to explain that there are different kinds of links and different methods for earning them. In the link building world, a client should beware of a firm that gets them 500 links just like camping teenagers should beware of a guy with a machete and a hockey mask. 3 of the Worst Link Building Strategies

To most SEOs, Google’s consistent changes to the algorithm keeps link builders and SEOs on their toes. In actuality, the algorithm updates are designed to serve better results and enhance users experience. Google changes their algorithm nearly 500 times annually, and link builders scramble to adopt new tactics in order to consistently elevate rankings and avoid penalties.

From the most recent algo updates a la “peguin” link builders are pressed to create natural link building techniques. This means that link building is a rather slow and tedious process. However, if you do not care about the algo updates and you just want links yesterday then here are some great ways to build unnatural links the fast and dirty way.

Here we take a look at 3 commonly used and ineffective link building strategies. Continue reading “3 of the Worst Link Building Strategies” »

Back To Basics: On-Page SEO

Here at Page One Power we are a link building firm, and On-Page SEO is taken for granted. Yet we understand that SEO is a many-pieced puzzle, and that all parts need to be handled appropriately for true optimization. And because SEO is such an in depth process, it’s easy to forget a few basic steps, which can at times be crucial. So to that end, we thought we’d provide a little back to basics reminder for those who might be overlooking the basics of SEO.

On-Page SEO is centered on garnering better recognition for your keywords by increasing search engines’ ability to recognize them. Essentially, you’re making your site easier to read and be recognized by search engines, as well as optimizing your keyword usage. To do this, in simplified language, there are 4 important elements to target for strong and efficient On-Page SEO. These are HTML Head Tags, Body Tags, URL Optimization, and Internal Links.

Keep in mind that before even considering On-Page optimization, you need to have clear and well defined keywords for every page of your website. Continue reading “Back To Basics: On-Page SEO” »

Google Layin’ the Smack Down

I’ve heard and read so much information about the Google smack down on blog networks and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve seen more black blogs than I’d care to and there’s no doubt that it was only a matter of time before these networks were dealt with. As a full time SEO my link building teams teams are constantly up against sites utilizing blog networks. We hate to see our sites get beat out by sites with obvious spam link building, but we love to see those sites sink in the SERP’s while our sites remain in place and even move up.

A Relationship/Obsession with Spam Link Building

I’ll admit, I can’t get enough of looking at link portfolios full of spam. There are few things more amusing to me than site-wide anchor text link on a black blog surrounded by other questionable anchor-text rich links. For years I’ve heard, read, and listened to “experts” talk about link building that will get you “de-indexed”. I’ve seen panda clear the forest. I’ve seen it all, and all the while I still see spam. The most bizarre thing I find about all that spam… it works and I’ve seen it work for very competitive terms. Continue reading “A Relationship/Obsession with Spam Link Building” »
